Ben is a senior associate solicitor in our Tax & Trusts team. 

He studied law and politics at Cardiff University and completed his Legal Practice Course (with LLM) at the University of Law. He completed his training contract at Wilsons and qualified as a solicitor in September 2017.

Ben advises a broad range of clients on their tax and estate planning, partnerships, trusts, succession and wills. Ben has a particular interest in Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT), owner managed businesses and the interplay between the commercial and private client sectors. Ben is also interested in the way changing technology is influencing the legal profession.  

Recent examples of Ben's work includes:

  • advising clients with business and agricultural assets on their estate planning and inheritance tax planning;
  • advising on the SDLT consequences of a surrender and re-grant of a lease of a winery involving connected companies and successive linked leases;
  • providing SDLT advice in relation to the purchase of a £25 million estate, including the application of multiple dwellings relief and mixed-use rate of SDLT; and
  • providing corporate tax support on multiple transactions, which includes the drafting and negotiation of tax warranties and indemnities (covering potential CGT, IHT, Corporation Tax, SDLT and Stamp Duty liabilities).

Ben is a member of the Stamp Taxes Practitioners Group (STPG), the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) and is currently studying for the Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) qualification.

In his free time he enjoys travelling, live music and is a keen runner. Ben is currently attempting to run all six major marathons and has so far completed London, Chicago, Berlin and New York.
